Discipline & ANARCHY: Anna pederson

ANNA PEDERSON (b.1996, Saint Paul, MN) is a textile and sculptural artist based in New York City.

Her work examines a relationship between industrialism and the Human Spirit; the ways in which industrialization transforms culture and our perception of nature. Using a combination of digital processes and mediums which reference traditions of craft, her work blends pre- and post- industrial modes of production. Recent work includes handwoven and digitally printed textile pieces, as well as sculptural found object assemblages. In 2018, Pederson completed a BFA at the Rhode Island School of Design, where she studied Textiles.

Possession and control :)

WHAT IS ONE THING YOU DO FOR SANITY MAINTENANCE?

Walk dogs.

WHAT IS THE SCRAPPIEST THING YOU’VE DONE TO MAKE OR SAVE $$?

I pick up dog shit for a living.

YOUR TASK IS TO PRESCRIBE ONE BOOK OR FILM TO THE COLLECTIVE FOR MANDATORY CONSUMPTION. WHAT IS IT?

I don't have a real answer, but I rewatched (Harmony Korine's) GUMMO last year and seeing it as an adult for the first time was surreal and funny to me. I think there must be a lot of people around my age who were also on Tumblr in the early 2010's and were sort of pilled by GUMMO and JULIEN DONKEY-BOY. Anyone in that population should rewatch if they haven't already.

current obsession?

The search for a computer chair that won't cripple me.

MOST USEFUL FAILURE?

Ideas/projects that hit a wall years ago to be revisited when the time is right.

SELECTED Q FROM THE PROUST QUESTIONNAIRE: What is your favorite occupation?

Shepherd.

WHAT ARE YOU CURRENTLY WORKING ON?

An animation and a sewing project I started in 2021.

DISCIPLINE OR ANARCHY?

Discipline.
