The Dangerous Maybe

Rot

You can convince yourself of anything once.

But, see, all it takes is that once to germinate lifelong delusion.

You find yourself circling back to the same virtues you cast off in haste

chasing Elsewhere,

that caustic beauty that left you

broken,

battered,

bruised,

and a helluva lot sharper.

In some ways, doll, you’re better.

In other ways, darling,

you’re far worse.

Absolutely damned and damaged.

Hell, you’ll never be the same.

And isn’t that something of a relief?
